Outdoor Courses
NSC’s outdoor courses can help you transition from the gym to the rock. If you would like to become a safe and independent climber outside, we’ll show you the way. In addition to our courses, we’d be happy to develop a custom outdoor program just for you.
SPORT LEADING COURSE
Take a weekend to learn the ins and outs of setting up and managing outdoor sport routes, including leading, belaying, cleaning, rappelling, risk assessment and falling. Through ground exercises, mock leading and lots of leading repetition on the rock, one of our AMGA certified guides will prepare you climb on your own. Gym leading certification included with successful completion of course.
- Prerequisites: must know how to belay and have a basic knowledge of climbing.
- Must be able to comfortably and cleanly climb 5.10a.
- Includes 2 days of instruction, gym leading certification. Bring your own gear.

TRAD LEADING COURSE
Placing one’s own protection requires a combination of mental fortitude and creativity not often found in sport climbing. If you’re ready to embark on a new adventure and expand your climbing repertoire, take this class. We’ll teach you how to place, clean and climb with gear. Familiarity with and possession of trad gear recommended.
- Prerequisites: Current Lead Certification, extensive sport leading experience, or manager approval

ANCHOR BUILDING COURSE
COMING SOON! An often overlooked craft, building top anchors opens up a new world of climbing and rappelling opportunities. Learn how to build efficient and safe anchors using trees, boulders and gear. Inquire if interested.
